What is a body oil
A body oil is a skincare product that moisturizes, nourishes, and helps support your skin barrier. It penetrates deep into the skin layers while locking in hydration. Depending on the oils used in the formula, a body oil can have varying consistencies. Heavier oils may feel stickier or greasier, while lighter oils provide nourishment and absorb more quickly. These lighter formulas are often called dry body oils. Our body oil formula is a dry oil, designed to leave your skin feeling soft and nourished without any greasy residue.
Body oil vs. Lotion
Although both products can moisturize the skin and support the repair of the skin barrier, body oils and lotions are not the same. The main difference lies in their water content: body oils contain no water, while lotions are primarily water-based.
Each has its pros and cons. Body oils deeply nourish the skin and create a barrier to lock in hydration, but they cannot hydrate the skin on their own. On the other hand, lotions can both hydrate and moisturize the skin. However, due to their high water content, lotions can sometimes leave the skin feeling dry when used alone.
How to use a body oil
Is this your first time adding a body oil to your routine? Here are some tips on how to use it! Since body oils are anhydrous, meaning they contain no water. While they’re amazing at moisturizing, they don’t hydrate the skin. That’s why we recommend applying body oil right after your shower, while your skin is still damp. This helps lock in hydration. Throughout the day, our skin naturally loses water, but body oil can create a barrier to help minimize that loss.
Another great way to use body oil is by pairing it with a lotion. Body lotions and creams typically have a water content of 50–75%, making them the perfect hydrating base for your body oil. First, apply your lotion or cream all over your body, then follow up with the body oil. Together, they’ll nourish and soften your skin, leaving it feeling silky smooth.
